Artist: William James Linton (1812 -1897) after Luigi Schiavonetti (1765-1810) after William Blake Title: Death's Door Materials: Wood engraving on paper Date: Between 1850-1861 Description: A stone doorway in a rock; a door opening inwards, which has a prominent keyhole and knocker; an old man, bent over and leaning on a stick, is walking through the door; a young nude man is sitting on top of the rock, looking upwards; rays of light emanate from behind him; after an engraving by Schiavonetti after William Blake, plate X. There were two versions of this wood engraving Death’s Door by Linton: the first was published in Illustrated Exhibitor and Magazine of Art (1852) and The Ladies' Drawing Room Book (1852), both from the same block, and the second, from a different block, in Linton's Thirty Pictures by Deceased British Artists Engraved Expressly for The Art-Union of London (1860) and John Jackson and W.
